In short, yes. Gold plating can wear over time with heavy use, and we would rather be upfront about that than pretend otherwise.
The good news: with a little care, the plating can last for years and stay looking as beautiful as the day you got it.

How to care for your jewellery
Six small habits, and your pieces will keep up with you.
Rinse after salt and chlorine
Ocean-safe means you can wear it in the water. A quick freshwater rinse after the beach or pool keeps the gold looking its best.
Keep it away from chemicals
Perfume, lotions, hair products and spa chemicals can dull the finish. Pop your jewellery on last, once you are ready to go.
Store it dry and separate
Keep pieces in a box or pouch, somewhere cool and dry, away from other metals so nothing scratches or tarnishes.
Take it off for the rough stuff
Jewellery can bend or break, so take your pieces off for vigorous exercise or heavy work.
Give gold rings extra love
Rings cop the most wear. Take them off for washing dishes or anything that rubs or scratches, and the plating lasts far longer.
